What we do for you

Storing your Wines

To provide the best possible care for your wines they are stored with one of the UK’s leading specialists for the secure storage of wine, London City Bond at their Vinothèque bonded facility. This is where much of the country’s fine and investment wine is stored.

Storage costs per case per year (6×75): £6 + VAT
Storage costs per case per year (12×75): £12 + VAT

Temperature & Humidity

The temperature and humidity within Vinothèque are close to ideal. Insulation, airflow and natural light shuttering make certain that wines develop in a carefully controlled atmosphere. Constant monitoring ensures that all wines are matured in ideal conditions.

Security

London City Bond Vinothèque is physically secure and protected by a state of the art intruder alarm system. The heavy oak doors boosted by state-of-the-art CCTV cameras that monitor every angle and corner of the building, inside and out. In addition, a security company that protects the major banks and high-value businesses elsewhere in the area – has 24/7 security patrols, and there are, of course, all the usual security checks and monitors on all staff and visitors to and from the site.

Insurance

Interest continues to grow in fine wine and there is only a finite supply, therefore prices should continue to increase and, as with any expensive asset, it is foolish not to insure it properly. All our client reserves are fully insured (to full replacement value). Wines in stock at Vinothèque are insured by them and wines in transit from abroad are insured by our shippers – currently J.F. Hillebrand UK.

Ownership

Wines from your own collection/portfolio can only be removed from Vinothèque with written permission from you. For the avoidance of doubt, Waud Investment Wines cannot remove or sell your wine without your express written consent. Multiple investor portfolios operated by us are managed by us and instructions to buy or sell here naturally come from our Fund Managers. Clients are also welcome to visit Vinothèque and their wine collection by prior arrangement.

Management Fee

WIW shall receive a management fee of 2.0% per annum of any subscription, which shall be paid from the Subscribers five-year investment in advance. There are no further management fees charged after 5 years.
No portion of such management fee shall become repayable in any circumstances.

Performance Fee

If we successfully sell wines on your behalf, a performance fee shall be payable at the rate of 10.0% of the upside between the sale price and the acquisition price.

Independent Investment Advice

The Wine & Spirit Trade Association (Independent from Waud Investment Wines) has produced guidelines which we are following as noted below;

Our Service

We manage the Investor’s portfolio by:

  • Informing the Investor when Waud Investment Wines Ltd identifies an appropriate opportunity to sell the goods at a price that will enable the Investor to improve his or her investment;
  • Effecting the sale of the goods
  • Recommending investment in further goods
  • Effecting the purchase of the goods

Investment Policy

For the avoidance of doubt, the fine wine industry is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Consequently Waud Investment Wines Ltd is not a financial institution and we cannot give financial advice or any guarantees about the potential increase in a fine wine’s value. Waud Investment Wines Ltd emphasises to the buyer that the value of the buyer’s investment may decrease or increase dependent upon prevailing market conditions over which Waud Investment Wines Ltd has no control.

Investment Term

Wine is a wasting asset therefore supply and demand economics suggest that the longer a wine is held, the more valuable it should become. We suggest that you should not purchase wines for investment unless you are prepared to wait for a minimum of 5 years. It is important to speak to a financial advisor for specific financial and taxation advice.

Liv-ex Charges

Where possible we will sell syndicate wines through our private channels. Ie: other syndicates, other private clients, or Waud Wine Club may purchase stocks. WIW are members of Liv-ex – which is the global marketplace for the buying and selling of fine wine. The Liv-ex commission fees are taken from the price the goods are sold at. Commission on sales and purchases are charged at 2% as standard. There is an additional £4 + VAT settlement charge.

Photography

If you would like a photograph of your wine, a charge of £5.00 is levied per case. All prices are excluding VAT at the prevailing rate of 20%.
